Film Overview

Original Title: Gagma Napiri
English Title: The Other Bank

During the Georgian-Abkhazia war, 12-year-old Tedo and his mother Keto live as refugees working menial jobs. Tedo assists at an auto repair shop and Keto is a store clerk. But, in an effort to survive, she starts to work as a prostitute. Tedo is tired of living the life of a refugee, especially without his father who was unable to travel with them due to a heart condition. Not knowing if his father is alive or not, Tedo decides to venture back to war-torn Abkhazia where he discovers that life as a runaway is even more dangerous and complicated than life as a refugee. In order to disguise the fact he doesn't speak the local language, he pretends to be deaf. Across a landscape that is ruled by despots and danger, Tedo forges ahead, undeterred in his quest and in hopes of finding his father. Adapted from the novel by Nugzar Shataidze, THE OTHER BANK deals with challenging social issues while exploring the universal themes of love and loneliness.
