Film Overview
Dionisio Pinzons, a peasant with a withered hand and a magnificent voice, works as a caller at cockfights. His fortune changes entirely the day he takes pity on an injured bird. Returned to health, the bird brings Dionisio wealth, fame, and the interest of the fiery cafe singer, La Caponera, who becomes his lucky talisman for the next 17 years. One the day she leaves him as mysteriously as she arrived, Dionisio learns that even the most epic turns of good fortune can run out. This film dceftly counterpoints realism and symbolism, drama and allegory, beauty and tragedy.
