Raised in Panama City, Reuben Blades is an internationally popular salsa music star. He also acts in films (“The Last Fight,” “Crossover Dreams”) and is a Harvard Law School graduate. Robert Mugge's vivid film portrait stresses Blade's personal commitment to social and political struggles through his vital music and meaningful lyrics. Articulate and charmingly witty during Mugge's interviews, Blades is an exciting artist to watch in live sessions with his band, Seis del Solar. Among his hit songs performed are “Buscando America” and “Silencios,” a duet with Linda Ronstadt. Also featuring Blades' parents in Panama and writer Pete Hamill, this insightful film captures the passion of salsa and its most famous composer/singer.
