THE RETURN OF TOMMY TRICKER

Once upon a time, Canadian postal authorities asked children's film producer Rock Demers (whose “Tales for All” series has been a CIFF tradition) to help promote stamp collecting among young people. Demers did more than that-he and director Michael Rubbo concocted “Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller” (13th CIFF, 1989), simply one of the best family features ever, which inspired kids' stamp clubs all over Canada and went on the become an international hit (if you look hard, you might even find it in US video stores). The sequel picks up where the original left off, with children mastering a secret spell that allows them to enter stamps and travel by mail to any address in the world. Tommy, the ever-scheming anto-hero, thinks he can use the magic to make himself rich. Key to his ambitions is a mysterious early stamp traveller who's been trapped in a collector's album for 60 years. All is not what is seems, however, and soon Tommy embarks on an amazing mission to the other side of the globe. Full of enchanting surprises, exotic locations, mischeif, music, and first rate special effects, this feature leads into a planned Stamp Traveller TV series.
