About This Film
Film Overview
Crime is not uncommon in modern Russia, though the crimes committed in THE RUSSIAN TRIANGLE are anything but common. The film follows the internship of a young cadet, Nikolai, who happens to have ancestors who are Georgian. In the big city, Georgians aren't necessarily held in high regard for their intellect and are considered simple mountain folk. Nikolai faces this prejudice by trying to solve the mystery of a serial killer whose calling card is a worn-out Dostoevsky book at the scene of his crimes. When the man who holds the most prejudice against Nikolai's Georgian roots takes charge of the case, Nikolai is relieved of his duties and assigned to menial tasks. This just emboldens Nikolai to search out the killer more. Nikolai is eventually pulled into a world of mystery where his once noble efforts meet the cruel and corrupt reality of the Russian police force. As he uncovers the motive behind the killer's seemingly random hits, and the painful story that the killer's life has been, Nikolai begins to question his right to bring this man to justice. Drawing on the displacement and anger that was a side-effect of the Chechnyan War, Aleko Tsabadze creates a film that can rival anything Hollywood can produce in suspense and raw emotion.
