About This Film
Film Overview
Benno is a man living the good life: steady and respectable job, beautiful and smart girlfriend, and a nice apartment above a coffee shop … a nice apartment above a coffee shop where proprietor Sandra won't stop playing her stupid “one-woman-orchestra” music by herself (she has a microphone and no audience; what's up with that?) after she closes, making it impossible to get some sleep. And even when Benno does fall asleep he dreams of Sandra and her stupid music and can't believe how much he hates her loathes her and then he wakes up distressed and covered in sand. Oh, yeah. The sand. The sand is everywhere. A little at first, but then lots. Tons of sand. Coming out of his sleeves. Coming out of his pants. Coming out of his mouth. And Benno can try to ignore it, but you can't just ignore piles of sand coming out of your body. Particularly when parts of your body become sand. Benno's time is running out and he must learn how to save himself (even if it means asking Sandra for help—yes, that Sandra) before he becomes just … a pile … of … sand. THE SANDMAN is an incredibly fantastic tale of dreams, love, stamps, and how life has a peculiar way of telling you when it's time to live. A darling of film festivals (11 awards) worldwide, this film will excite, inspire, and warm you with its extraordinary performances and incredible story. (In Swiss-German with subtitles) – T.W.
