Film Overview

Original Title: Pramen Zivota
English Title: THE SPRING OF LIFE

At the opposite extreme of the Holocaust, the Nazi's systematic extermination of “inferior” peoples, lay another horror borne form the Third Reich's obsession with genetic purity. In 1938 German invaders of the Sudetenland examine local girls, ostensibly for signs of tuberculosis. But the truth is far more sinister. Despite her despised Slavic ancestry, Gr?tka, an innocent 16-year-old, impresses the SS with her perfect blonde, blue-eyed Aryan features. She is selected to go to Germany and enroll in an elite “sanatorium” with a collection of similar girls. Objective: breeding, for this is the Lebensborn, a human stud farm for replenishment and refinement of the Master Race. Gr?tka and her classmates train in gymnastics, shooting and blood oaths to Hitler, while awaiting their “destiny” as short duration brides for pre-assigned stormtroopers to visit and impregnate. Resistance is futile. Or is it? The estate was once property of a wealthy Jewish family; their son Leo still dwells on the grounds, a resident pariah and unlikely pet of the fanatical Nazi matron in charge. Against all odds, Gr?tka prays for deliverance . . . THE SPRING OF LIFE is a harrowing story torn from the darkest chapters of the 20th Century. (In Czech and German with English subtitles)
