The Tour

The year is 1993 and the setting is a problematic and bloody war between the Croatians, Muslims, and Serbians. Yet a naive group of actors from Belgrade National Theater is convinced that it would be a good idea to perform Feydeau's farce, “A Flea in Her Ear,” for extra money and an expanded audience. So they set off on a treacherous tour through Serbian Krajina at one of the worst times possible. Through a series of unexpected events, the group of actors end up on the front line, face-to-face with the horrors of war. As they cross enemy lines, they eventually meet all three groups involved in the war. The lack of political knowledge by the actors is a cause for many laughs in this dark comedy. But it is their commitment to the theater that ends up saving them. Director Goran Markovic (CIFF's first Director's Spotlight Award recipient in 2003) proves why he won the award for Best Director at the 2008 Montréal World Film Festival.
