THE WINDING STREAM honors the legacy of country music's most vital family, the Carters. Whether as the Original Carter Family, the Carter Sisters, or through their work with June Carter's legendary husband Johnny Cash, the impact they've made on music is indisputable. Unfortunately, until now, their story has never really been given the attention it truly deserves. Like many innovators, their contribution is heard through the artists who have come after them, while their own work has rarely enjoyed the same commercial success. This fascinating documentary follows the multi-generational family from its roots in Maces Springs, Virginia, to its continuation today through John Carter Cash and his wife as Carter Family III. In addition to new interviews with family members, the film also features rare old interviews and performances, including some with the late Johnny Cash. There are also appearances from musicians Murray Hammond of Old 97's, Sheryl Crow, and Kris Kristofferson, who drop by to pay homage to a family whose influence is immeasurable.
