Film Overview

Makes that “Billy Elliot” kid look like a mere ballet dancer, that's Jimmy Grimble, a fatherless schoolboy in Manchester, England, to whom only three things matter: football, football and football. There's only one problem for the diminuitive, would-be star of the soccer fields and goal nets. “If anybody's watching, my game just falls apart!” Bullied by the other players, pitied at best by the school's unregarded coach (“The Full Monty”'s Robert Carlyle), and too often left to himself by his distracted mother, Jimmy needs a miracle to score, in and out of the arena. And he finds one. A homeless old woman watches the lad practice, and gives him a pair of old but well-preserved leather cleated shoes, once the property of a mysterious chap named Robbie Brewer, who held a position on Manchester's underdog City team. When Jimmy dons the shoes his luck changes. Suddenly he is strong, wiry, surefooted, accurate and supremely confident, as he leads his trophy-deprived school through a sudden winning streak. But who was Robbie Brewer? And how far will his soul (soles?) carry Jimmy Grimble? A modern urban fairy tale, electrified with high-energy British pop music, THERE'S ONLY ONE JIMMY GRIMBLE will bring you to your feet at the climax.
