A rare animated treat from Syria, THREAD OF LIFE takes a joyous path to an important life lesson. Young Alaa is a good student at school, but constantly tormented by his classmate, Obaida. His life at home is also difficult; he lives in poverty while his mother works to make ends meet with her sewing. For comfort, Alaa has a barnyard of animals and a special bird friend, Sesame. The struggles of his youth are common, as is his desire to skip ahead in life, to possible better times. When his despair reaches its depths, he is lead by a wise old turtle into a tunnel. There, Old Woman Time offers him a magical gift: The Thread of Life. Alaa needs only to tug on the thread to move ahead in life; the length of his tug determining where in time he arrives. As he travels in fast forward through future experiences and events, Alaa realizes that perhaps he should be careful what he wishes for. Filled with memorable animated characters, lovely and lively songs, and a wonderful moral, THREAD OF LIFE, is an enjoyable film for film goers of all ages. (In Arabic with English Subtitles) – JBH
