To Love Someone

TO LOVE SOMEONE is a story of searing passion run amok. Lena is haunted by the memory of her relationship with the intense Hannes, a broodingly handsome loner in therapy for his bouts of violent anger. She has just started a new, orderly life with Alf, a hard worker who owns a fish shop and eats the same thing every day for lunch. Though at one time severely beaten by Hannes and, as a result, separated from him by the law and well-meaning friends and social workers, Lena still finds herself irresistibly attracted to him. For reasons she's unable to articulate, Lena rejects everyone's advice to stick with the protective Alf, and she begins to stalk the man who so brutally abused her. Meanwhile, Alf decides to handle the situation in his own methodical way. Swedish director Ã…ke Sandgren's film sets a deliberate pace and somber tone evocative of Ingmar Bergman, picks up speed as the story careens toward catastrophy.
