Film Overview

“I haven't lived; nothing ever happened to me,” reflects Thomas bitterly. Filed away, forgotten, in a home for the elderly, he believes that as an infant he was switched with another baby, his overbearing boyhood neighbor Alfred who went on to romance, fame, prosperity, and notoriety, while Thomas saw his family sundered, dreams denied. Only now, a life?span later, does Thomas decide to take revenge. Jaco van Dormael's fantasmagoric feature debut swings back and forth along the hero's 'uneventful' existence, weaving the cosmic tapestry of twisted fate, prophetic coincidence, memory and illusion that made this a hit throughout Europe, spearheading a revival in Belgian cinema.
