About This Film
Film Overview
The food truck craze is everywhere. In Columbus, Ohio they've seen an onslaught of taco trucks in the city, serving up delicious authentic Mexican cuisine. But the trucks are stirring up conversation for other reasons. In the Greater Hilltop area, people are upset, calling the trucks an eyesore, claiming they'll drive away potential customers and residents. However, there also seems to be an ulterior motive behind their concerns: some of the trucks may be operated by illegal immigrants. One such immigrant is Lidia Labra, who came to the United States from Mexico 12 years ago. To make ends meet, she's used her family's recipes for her truck, which has become a staple in the poorer, King-Lincoln area. There the community has rallied behind Labra, appreciative of the economic and cultural impact her business has had in their neighborhood. For Labra the support means everything as she still misses her family in Mexico dearly. TRANSFUSIÓN deals with immigration and race from a truly unique angle, showing that taco trucks bring more to the table than just food. (In English and Spanish with subtitles) —E.F.
