About This Film
Film Overview
At a young age, Laila left her home country of Jordan for the Westernized life of England and America. But she has returned home in the touching TRANSIT CITIES only to find the Jordan she was looking for no longer exists. It's been 17 years of living and studying abroad, and Laila is searching for a new beginning. Her sister is now a family woman and her mother seems broken; and both women are now wearing veils. Her father, once a leftist intellectual, is unemployed and glued to a couch—though he finds the energy to leave the room whenever Laila enters. On the search for a new life in her old surroundings, Laila is met with rejection and disapproval. Holding a secret of her own from her family, Laila soon finds that longing to be home doesn't mean that home is where she belongs. (In Arabic with subtitles) –T.W.
