Film Overview

Original Title: Chang Hup The Gi Tril Nung
English Title: TRAVELLERS AND MAGICIANS

A Buddhist road movie combining ancient legend with a humorous look at the contemporary world, TRAVELLERS AND MAGICIANS is set in the pristine, breathtaking landscape of Bhutan, a small Buddhist nation fairly untouched by the rest of the world. The story follows a young government officer, Dondup, who is stationed in a rural outpost. He believes, however, that if he could leave Bhutan for the west, he will be happy. His secret plans to move, however, go slightly awry, and he ends up on the road with a Buddhist monk, an apple seller, and a father and daughter. To pass the night, the monk tells the tale of Tashi, a lazy student of sorcery who also dreams of greener pastures in distant lands. No doubt there is a lesson here, since it was written and directed by an important lama, a.k.a. His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche.
