Film Overview

TRAVELLING NORTH is a moving love story about an older couple. Leo McKern (“Rumpole of the Bailey”) plays Frank, a retired civil engineer and loveable, if not always likeable, curmudgeon. A widower, Frank and his much younger lover Frances'(Julia Blake), a widow, leave Melbourne to enjoy unwedded bliss in the subtropical north. This scandalizes France's selfish married daughters who don't want to lose their babysitter. Trouble in their clifftop paradise follows when Frank's declining health turns him into an insufferable bully whom Frances can't tolerate. The film avoids sentimentality and draws forth both wit and poignancy from a talented cast.
