Film Overview

A delicious comedy/drama, TURTLE DIARY's central characters, lead bleak lives of quiet desperation. Neara (Glenda Jackson) is a children's book author with writer's block and only a pet water beetle for company. William (Ben Kingsley), a bookstore assistant, shares a boarding house with lonely women and an infuriating slob (Jeroen Krabbe, “The 4th Man”). Neara and William are “turtle freaks” who meet at an aquarium and plot to kidnap the tank-bound turtles to release them into the sea. This new commitment frees the conspirators from their own confinements and transforms them completely. Kingsley's penetrating eyes speak volumes of wit and mystery; Jackson soars in this intimate gem, full of small triumphs that make you want to cheer.
