Film Overview

Original Title: Dva Igraca S Klupe
English Title: Two Players From The Bench

Facing the enemy is nothing like it used to be in Dejan Šorak's TWO PLAYERS FROM THE BENCH. Following the brutal interethnic wars in former Yugoslavia, Duško, an awkward and scrawny Serbian, and Ante, a gruff and hulking Croatian, find themselves inexplicably locked in a room together. They seem to have absolutely nothing in common until their captor Antisa shows them pictures of two men named Mato and Joso. Despite a full set of teeth and a scar-free face, respectively, Duško and Ante bear uncanny likenesses to the men in the photographs. Thus, the two captives have been chosen to impersonate Mato and Joso, missing witnesses, before the International War Crimes Tribunal in Hague. Their mission is to provide an alibi for the Croatian war hero Skoko. As Duško and Ante prepare for their big day in court, this politically charged film doubles as a comedy of errors, ultimately asking whether these two players from the bench will be able to fool the world.
