Film Overview

Hidden in The Bunker, the famous New York den of legendary literary icon William Burroughs, was a gold mine of film and photos archived by filmmaker Howard Brookner. When Howard's nephew, Aaron, discovered and unearthed this treasure, he started an amazing journey to reconstruct and celebrate his uncle's life and work. Known for the acclaimed 1983 documentary, “Burroughs: The Movie,” Howard was a fascinating cultural figure who swirled among the most influential artists of the day and compulsively documented everything. UNCLE HOWARD inevitably becomes much more than a loving nephew's tribute to family. Featuring the likes of Andy Warhol, Frank Zappa, Allen Ginsberg, Jim Jarmusch, and Madonna, the film is a glorious look at an epoch where culture rebelled, minds exploded, drugs flowed, the revolution was televised, and AIDS reared its ugly head. Gay, beautiful, talented, and fearless, Howard left a history of these times that is a joy to behold. Narrated by both family and the famous, UNCLE HOWARD is Aaron's gift to his uncle's legacy and to us. –C.R.
