A vaudeville is what the French term a nostalgic, light farce, with a traditional triangle of husband, wife and lover. Awarded the new Beauregard “Discovery” prize in Paris, VAUDEVILLE sparkles with pointed dialogue, crisp direction and appealing, unconventional characters. Guy Marchand and Marie-Christine Barrault, “Cousin, Cousine's” unhappily married couple, are VAUDEVILLE's Gaston and Madeleine, married for 20 years – and “bored.” Gaston longs for the bachelor life, Madeleine wants a new lifestyle and romance. Their single friend, Victor, would prefer domesticity to promiscuity. So they switch roles; the bachelor plays husband, the husband plays lover and the wife plays mistress – but only the woman knows how to win at this new game.
