About This Film
Film Overview
WAITING FOR THE MOON draws us into the Parisian Left Bank world of the Lost Genreation in this charming and unconventional interpretative portrait of the devoted private-life relationship between Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas–a bonding between “a genius and a saint,” as Stein saw it. The film is set in 1936 during a difficult period in the relationship. Scenes in the pair's famous salon are interspersed with their adventures outside it, including a midnight picnic in the countryside with the poet Apollinaire and Picasso's mistress and a rescue mission to extricate Hemingway from a night of debuchery in a bordello. Brilliant portrayals of Toklas by Academy-Award Winner Linda Hunt and Stein by Linda Basset spring two remarkable women to life.
