About This Film
Film Overview
Timothy is an openly gay senior, still bullied by the rugby team at his close-minded, all-boys high school. To make matters worse, he's crushing hard for the seemingly straight team captain, Jonathon. When Timothy is cast as Puck in their school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, he discovers that Shakespeare's magical “love-in-idleness” flower isn't just a myth. Tired of the homophobia in his community, he uses the potion to turn the town gay, making his dream of dating Jonathon a reality. But Timothy's joy quickly turns to guilt. Is it worth having his wish if he knows it's all a lie? Soon his brilliant plan begins to yield some major consequences. By upsetting the natural order, he's ruined a slew of relationships in a whirlwind of chaos. Can he fix the madness? Not many films can make the unpleasant awkwardness of teenage sexuality as fun as WERE THE WORLD MINE. It's an audacious blend of comedy, musical, fantasy, and romance, all rolled up into one incredibly empowering and highly entertaining slice of cinema. – E.F.
