Film Overview
Called “Mr. Clock” by all because of his uncanny ability to tell time accurately without a glance at any clock, a small-town clockmaker becomes a hero of the resistance during WWII occupation. His shop labeled Jewish, “Mr. Clock” is ordered to make nightly visits to the Gestapo chief, an avid timepiece collector, to make repairs. After he is jailed, where conditions make it impossible to know if it is day or night, “Mr. Clock's” special gift enables the prisoners to carry out an escape plan dependent upon exact timing. Alternately humorous and tragic, the film is unforgettable for its brutal, poetic, and above all, immensely moving imagery.
