About This Film
Film Overview
Mustangs have roamed the western United States for over 300 years and have been protected by law since 1971. Now, however, there are too many and the Bureau of Land Management has been charged with keeping the population stable. Each year, thousands are taken from the herd for public adoption. But first each horse must be tamed and trained. Enter select prisoners from the East Canon Correctional Complex in Canon City, Colorado. Methamphetamine addicts, drug dealers, and thieves are given the opportunity to work as horse whisperers through the Wild Horse Inmate Program. Most have never ridden a horse, let alone disciplined one. It is a job that will pit them against a creature wilder, stronger, and more dangerous than they are. From expert trainer, Jon Petersen, to neophyte, Brandon Clay, tempers flair as both learn skills of leadership, trust, and patience. And the clock is running out for both inmate- who will eventually be released- and horse- that only has a designated time to prove rideable. Based on the story “90 Day Horses,” THE WILD HORSE REDEMPTION features a lyrical tale of second chances… for man and mustang. –CCP
