About This Film
Film Overview
Eleven-year-old Kattaka is celebrating Christmas with her parents at home in Berlin when an unexpected phone call turns her world upside down. It's a horrible shock: her dad isn't really her dad. Her biological father is a Russian sailor named Alexi, who she didn't know existed. Furious and disappointed with her parents, she determines to track down her real father—and so begins an epic journey. Lena, a crotchety neighbor lady whose family was forced from Poland during World War II, agrees to drive Kattaka and a friend. And soon the three head east out of Berlin in Lena's van, on a quest to find Alexi. Their unusual road trip takes them through frozen Eastern Europe toward the Polish seaport at Gdansk, where Alexi's ship is docked. Kattaka and Lena have fears to conquer. They want both to find out where they came from, and to know where they belong. WINTER'S DAUGHTER will take you places you've never been: let the journey inspire you.
