About This Film
Film Overview
“I’m not in danger, okay? I’m just in love.” So says Morgan, who’s fallen head over heels for enigmatic Simone, who has a shadowy past and may or may not be harboring dangerous secrets. Morgan’s primed to be wary about matters of the heart, however. She and Jean (her ex) still live together in Park Slope, co-host a podcast about murderous women, and are struggling to find equilibrium within their own ever-evolving relationship. This skeptical mindset starts to become a liability after Jean discovers Simone’s mom may have been a notorious serial killer. Doubt, mistrust, and fear influence how Morgan perceives even innocuous events, which cause her friendships to fray at the seams. This culminates in a shocking denouement that leaves many questions unanswered. WOMEN WHO KILL is equal parts suspenseful psychological thriller and incisive romantic comedy, with a hipster Brooklyn backdrop that lends the perfect touches of absurdity. At its core, however, the film provides subtle commentary on the things people do to avoid—or even sabotage—functional love. —A.Z.
