Like most of her generation, director Kristy Guevara-Flanagan grew up with Lynda Carter in reruns on the “Wonder Woman” TV show. Her friends were Wonder Woman for Halloween for years, since there were no other girl fantasy heroes. But BAM! POW! Kristy made a movie to help right this grievous wrong. WONDER WOMEN! THE UNTOLD STORY OF AMERICAN SUPERHEROINES traces the evolution of superheroines, from their birth in 1940s comic books to their current manifestation in blockbusters. It's a look at how societal takes on women's liberation affect the popular representation of powerful females. Actresses Lynda Carter and Lindsay Wagner, comic writers and artists, and real-life strongwomen such as Gloria Steinem and Kathleen Hanna offer an enlightening and entertaining counterpoint to the male-dominated superhero genre.
