Film Overview

Adapted from Emily Bronte's harsh, haunting love story, WUTHERING HEIGHTS has become one of the silver screen's classic romances. Director William Wyler, producer Samuel Goldwyn and cinematographer Gregg Toland put all the pieces together, starting with inspired performances by Merle Oberon as Catherine and Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff. Lush music, vast sets, beautiful costumes, soft candle light and romantic dialogue are set against a tumultuous atmosphere of lost love and broken dreams on the Yorkshire moors. In newly struck 35mm prints for this 50th Anniversary year, the timeless romance of the civilized society girl and the savage servant shines in all its original glory.
