About This Film
Film Overview
This may be the most unusual film in the festival: a musical comedy that opens with white-garbed nurses performing a Busby Berkeley homage, followed by a barrage of other cinematic recollections. There is a story between the songs, however, and it concerns Nurse Klivia (who runs a curious rest home full of eccentrics), her virginal daughter Jet and the rest home's landlord and neighbor named Boordevol, who is trying to evict them. Other people move in and out (a drama queen hairdresser, a burglarizing lesbian lusting after Jet) all with specific agendas and damning secrets. But right on schedule there's a musical moment of dancing nurses that brightens the proceedings. The sets mix realistic design with soft pastels, and the period look is spot on.
