The Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) is thrilled to announce it is bringing back CIFF42’s THE DRUMMER AND THE KEEPER – the first-ever CIFF Opening Night film to win the coveted Roxanne T. Mueller Audience Choice Award for Best Film.
The single screening return engagement of the film will take place on Thursday, November 8th at 7:00PMat the Capitol Theatre and will include the screening, as well as a post-film discussion with some very special guests. The evening is presented with generous support from the Callahan Foundation.
THE DRUMMER AND THE KEEPERtellsthe story of the unlikely friendship formed between two young men: Gabriel, a reckless young drummer with bipolar disorder; and, Christopher, a 17-year-old with Asperger’s Syndrome, who yearns to fit in. This heartwarming story shows the strength of the human bond in the face of adversity. The film stars a collection of talented Irish actors including Dermot Murphy, Jacob McCarthy, and Peter Coonan.
Nick Kelly, the director of the film, will travel from his home in Ireland to be on-hand at the event, along with Dr. John Hertzer, Director of the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. The post-film discussion with Nick Kelly and Dr. John Hertzer will be led by local broadcasting legend Dee Perry. She will inquire about the inspiration behind the film and Nick’s experience at CIFF42, as well as some of the mental health issues addressed in THE DRUMMER AND THE KEEPER. An audience Q&A will follow the discussion.
