Missy
About
After the sudden loss of her father, a respected Houston minister, to COVID-19, opera soprano Michelle “Missy” Johnson is left with unresolved grief and an unfinished relationship. When she discovers a poem her father wrote years earlier, Missy joins longtime musical friends to transform the text into an orchestral work—a symbolic final conversation shaped through sound. As the project unfolds, the film interweaves personal stories of loss, friendship, and collective trauma, culminating in a final performance that gives collective voice to grief. Missy is an intimate documentary about how art, community, and shared presence help people endure loss—not by erasing grief, but by allowing it to be carried together.
