Not content with trawling through video stores for the funniest clips they could find, Found Footage Festival creators Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett created strongman duo Chop & Steele, confusing morning news anchors across the nation. Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher—friends and comedy partners with a taste for the subversive—created the cult sensation Found Footage Festival, assembled from VHS oddities. In CHOP AND STEELE, a hilarious and touching documentary, we follow their history as pranksters who duped local news morning shows across the country with fake personas, including their magnum opus: two strongmen characters (with their obvious lack of physical strength) named Chop and Steele. When a larger news corporation discovers their on-air hoax, they retaliate with federal charges against the duo, threatening the stability of their long-standing comedic partnership. Through all the laughs, their story is a testament to uncompromised creative freedom and challenging the phoniness of the corporate establishment, all the way to the stage of America’s Got Talent. —C.F.
